COLIN MCDOWELL: This is the ML4000. It’s a multiband dynamics processor and front-end limiter. What the hell does that mean? Okay. If you have like too much bass, too much high end, too much mid range, you sound like someone mixing with their eyes closed or their ear plugs in, one or the other, you can still actually fix it with a multiband tool provided it has enough flexibility like -- Ah hah! Coincidentally, the ML4000!
I have here a two-track mix, very heavy on the kick drum. We’re going to get rid of that crazy kick drum balanced out with the rest of the mix, and at the same time we’re going to add some upward expansion in the high end so we can hear that sizzly record company sound and we can hear all the percussive elements up. And the vocal? We’ll actually hear the vocal. I don’t know why I don’t hear the vocal but we’re going to hear the vocal.

I mean this awesome listening space at the trade show, even here you can still appreciate that wow, that not only did I get rid of that a crazy kick drum, it made it louder, even the signal peaks are actually lower than they were before and still perceptibly louder, sounds a lot better, sounds like it was mixed by a professional, and by God you bill your client for eight hours of work. And if that took at least eight hours, you press that bypass button.
BILL HOLLAND: And that was all done just with the ML4000, right? That was just the limiter that you put on there.
