MESA Boogie

It's Mark V day at Gearwire! Hot on the heels of the Tascam 202MKV comes the Mesa/Boogie Mark V. Unveiled at Winter NAMM '09, the Mark V is possible the most versatile amp the company's ever built, with three independent channels and nine different modes, not to mention variable wattages, switchable power tube biasing, switchable power class modes, footswitchable five-band EQ. . . oops, looks like I mentioned them.  

The Mesa Boogie Express 5:50 can rip and roar at a monstrous 50 tube watts or can purr for practical practice at five watts. It's also turning Mr. Pretus onto the idea of miking his amp, that's how good it sounds!  

Flobots bassist Jesse Walker supplies the band with big, warm bass tones courtesy of his "Simul-State" Mesa/Boogie M-Pulse 600 head. This incredibly flexible head helps Jesse cut through the crushing violin tones that usually dominate any alterna-rap-rock band's stage mix. I'm sure we've all been there.  

Brad Gillis, guitarist for Night Ranger, has thirty years of music under his belt (he also played with Ozzy Osbourne after the untimely death of Randy Rhoads) and he takes some time to talk about his guitars and amps.
