Metasonix G-1000: Not A Fender Or Marshall Knockoff By A Long Shot
The Metasonix G-1000, also known as the F*cking F*cker, is an amplifier that has no intentions of so*nding like any other amplifier. Instead of *sing r*n-of-the-mill 12AX7s or EL34s, the F*cking F*cker is chock f*ll of TV t*bes.
So, in addition to accessing a n*mber of weird tones, yo* can also watch Ento*rage on it*. Ento*rage r*les.
* Yo* cannot watch television on the Metasonix G-1000.

HENRY BIANCO: This is Henry from Gearwire.Com, and I’m here with Michael at NAMM ’08 and we’re ---- Well, we’re looking at the F*cking F*cker. What do you have to say about it?
ERIC BARBOUR: I’m Eric Barbour, the owner of Metasonix. This is my design. I wanted to make a guitar amp that was all tube and totally different from anything else.
HENRY BIANCO: Okay.
ERIC BARBOUR: So basically, it’s two completely different amplifiers in one box.
HENRY BIANCO: Now, it has 23 tubes in it.
ERIC BARBOUR: Right.
HENRY BIANCO: Why?
ERIC BARBOUR: Because it’s made of weird TV tubes.
HENRY BIANCO: Oh really?
ERIC BARBOUR: And you need a lot to do this. I mean the output tubes are 6BK5’s. You won’t see those on anything else, but they’re really good tubes.
HENRY BIANCO: I just played it and I thought it sounded phenomenal. What inspired this?
ERIC BARBOUR: Well, I wanted to have a guitar amp for people who wanted to really experiment who aren’t cowards, you know. Everybody else is making Fender or Vox or Marshall knockoffs, so I wanted to do something really different, prove it could be done with weird tubes that nobody else wants. So, it’s got things like remote cutoff pentodes. It’s got a 6BN6 tube in it which was used as an FM detector in FM radios, that kind of weird stuff. You never see that used in audio.
HENRY BIANCO: I assume that it probably answers itself why the name, why the artwork.
ERIC BARBOUR: Well, I wanted to have something that would really stick out, and I’m getting tired of the NAMM Show.
HENRY BIANCO: [LAUGHING]
ERIC BARBOUR: And I might as well make as much of not just noise as I can.
HENRY BIANCO: That’s good to hear. Now, what’s the production going to be like on this? Is it going to be one at a time? Only per order?
ERIC BARBOUR: This is going to be a one-at-at-a-time thing. This box, this is the biggest Marshall-type cabinet that I could get. It is jammed full of electronics. There’s no room to add any features, so don’t ask for them, but yeah 23 tubes and it gets very hot inside so I have to watch the heat. It’s probably got to be rearranged too.
HENRY BIANCO: What’s the wattage? What’s the output on it?
ERIC BARBOUR: Fifteen watts per channel.
HENRY BIANCO: Fifteen watts per channel with 23 tubes. That’s fantastic.
ERIC BARBOUR: Right. And I had not planned to make a speaker to go with it. You can use regular guitar speakers.
HENRY BIANCO: Okay. Well, thanks for taking the time to talk to us and we will be back with more.
ERIC BARBOUR: Sure.
