Korg MicroKorg Black Key: Party Like It's 1981
The limited run MicroKorg Black Key model adds some retro style to the legendary mini-synth. You've still got the same otherworldly sounds and the sweet vocoder with black keys where the white ones should be and white keys where the black ones usually are -- a must-have item for any synth collector.
Unfortunately, the keys' new color doesn't make them any bigger. You still have to either play more precisely or whittle off the sides of your fingers.
BILL HOLLAND: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. We are live in Anaheim for the Winter 2008 NAMM session. I’m here at the Korg booth with Richard, and we’re looking at the new inverted black-key microKORG. Now, there’s not much difference from the original microKORG in this except for the cosmetics, right?
RICHARD: Exactly. It’s the same microKORG we’ve loved and used for years. It’s the same beastly synth. It’s one of the best-selling mini synths on earth, and we decided to release a limited edition. Really cool retro keyboard with the inverted black and white keys so snap them up while they last. They will definitely be a collector’s item.
BILL HOLLAND: Very similar to the 1981 Darth Vader Atari unit.
RICHARD: Yeah.
BILL HOLLAND: It’s pretty cool. It’s all inverted and black and --
RICHARD: Got the same vocoder, still [INDISCERNIBLE]. You can still get to all your sounds real quick just by the category dial.

Still sounds real fat, still very easy to use. One of the best synths in the world.
BILL HOLLAND: All right. Thanks again Richard. I’m Bill Holland for Gearwire.Com and we’ll be back with more from Winter NAMM 2008 in a little bit.
