Monster Factory Amplification Swamp Thang: High Gain Meets A Clean That Fits

February 11, 2008
Swamp Thang

Don't let the animated .gifs and simple layout of their website fool you -- Monster Factory Amplification doesn't want to waste time polishing up a website when they could be unleashing frighteningly rocking amps instead. Their latest character, Swamp Thang, picks up some urban 'tude after it "dragged itself out of a voodoo swamp."

Raised on a healthy diet of gain, bottom end and presence, Swamp Thang is heavier than a sumo wrestler full of bricks. Best yet, its clean channel was designed to complement the nastiness of the overdrive channel.

This creature features:

  • Two channels -- Clean and Overdrive -- both front panel and silent footswitch selectable [included].
  • High gain American-voiced preamp with five beefy gain stages and a unity buffer all powered by three mighty ECC83 dual triodes [BE ADVISED - this channel has mind-altering gain and, as such, is a bit noisy. Don't expect it to behave like those computers they disguise these days to look like guitar amps].
  • Three-band equalization for the Overdrive Channel and two-band, scooped mid equalization for the Clean Channel.
  • Clean Channel also has a Saturation Control that lets you dial in mild overdrive at any volume. Nice contrast to the actual Overdrive Channel and one of the features that help make this our most versatile offering yet! It has a strong "green box" sound.
  • Active effects loop driven by a 12AT7 dual triode featuring independent level controls for send and return, as well as a series/parallel switch and a pedal/rack switch.
  • Speaker emulated line out for sound reinforcement and/or recording specially matched to replicate the Swamp Thang cab.
  • 4x6L6GC power amp delivering 120 watts to any 4, 8, 16, or 20 ohm load.
  • Matching 4x12, 8ohm, 600W cab with removable casters and loaded with Eminence Swamp Thang speakers -- what else?
