Moog Etherwave Plus Controller Theremin (Yeah, You Read That Correctly) At Winter NAMM 2009
While Moog Music really had no intention of topping their Summer NAMM release of the Moog Guitar, they still, as per usual, have some very interesting stuff going on at their Winter NAMM '09 booth, and the most interesting piece they brought to the show has to be the Etherwave Plus. Although it's part of the Etherwave Theremin family, it also prides itself on the other half of its lineage as a standalone CV controller.
This mutt not only allows you to play those daffy theremin sounds everyone's been talking about, it also lets you control other gear by waving your hands, which not only provides a function, but lets you pretend you're some kind of awesome wizard.
The CV control signals are proportional to the pitch and volume of the Etherwave Plus' audio signal. You can connect it to the pitch and volume CV inputs of a Little Phatty or any other properly equipped analog synthesizer. Moog Marketing Manager Chris Stack explains:
“The Etherwave Plus’ CV signals are not limited to pitch and volume control, so they can be routed to any CV destination for a new world of expression. Use it to control anything from the cutoff frequency of the Moog Guitar Ladder Filter to the LFO Amount on a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator to the stereo panning on a Minimoog Voyager.”
He could not, however, explain the phenomenon that I used the words "wizard" and "equipped" in the same article. Correlatively with popular opinion, he thought I was way cooler than that.
Fast Features:
- Pitch & Volume CV Outputs -- control a different CV parameter with each hand
- Gate Output –- trigger envelopes and other events
- Pitch Preview / Headphone Output -- with separate volume control, lets you hear your note before the audience does
- Power LED -- instant visual power status on dark stages
