Moog MF-105 MuRF Pedal - Stompbox Walkthru Part 2
[DAN AGOSTO PLAYING THE CLAVIA NORD LEAD 3 THROUGH A MOOG MUSIC MOOOGERFOOGER MURF]
DAN AGOSTO: So, that’s just one of the things that you can do with the synthesizer like the Nord Lead 3 and the Moogerfooger MURF filter pedal, but there are a ridiculous amount of stuff that you can do like as you can see we have all these straight up. We’re on pattern 12, bank 2. Our rate is pretty low, and it basically just it almost steps through the notes for you, sort of like an arpeggiator would, and it also adds some nice panning effects when we’re running stereo like we do.
Let’s check out one of the real cool things I think you can do with just about any subtractive synth or the MURF pedal or even just a sample. What I like to use is noise, so turn down the mix all the way.

That’s all I’m going to be sending to the MURF pedal, so if we turn it up and we keep the same settings.

So, since we’re sending it, all the different frequencies, it has all of the different frequencies to step through. So, what we can actually start doing is taking out certain filters. Let’s start out by taking out all the middle ones.
[DAN AGOSTO PLAYING THE CLAVIA NORD LEAD 3 THROUGH A MOOG MUSIC MOOOGERFOOGER MURF]
So, we just have the really low ones and the really high ones. I’m going to turn up the rate a little bit too.
[DAN AGOSTO PLAYING THE CLAVIA NORD LEAD 3 THROUGH A MOOG MUSIC MOOOGERFOOGER MURF]
We take out some of the high ones and add some of the little one.

You can actually start creating some interesting beats with this, and you can tempo sync the MURF with the sequencer using a MIDI-to-CV controller or something like that. There’s also a tap tempo input. You can change the envelope.

And by changing these volume pedal -- these volume faders, basically all I’m doing is taking like say let’s call the 1 kHz one our snare.

We’ll turn this up so you’ll hear it more often. And let’s call one of these like a lower drum.
[DAN AGOSTO PLAYING THE CLAVIA NORD LEAD 3 THROUGH A MOOG MUSIC MOOOGERFOOGER MURF]
By just controlling the volume of each of these little instruments that you try with a different pitch, sort of like you would with an old drum machine, old-school drum machine. Let’s check out some of the different patterns.

This is pattern number 10.
[DAN AGOSTO PLAYING THE CLAVIA NORD LEAD 3 THROUGH A MOOG MUSIC MOOOGERFOOGER MURF]
Or if you repeat it on this side of the envelope, we’re going to have pan effects more like an active drum.

Switch to bank A.

So, like your 3.4 is basically kind of like your hi-hat or something like that. Pretty cool to make beats like that. That’s what I’ve been using the MURF to do every once in a while. So, those are just a couple of the many things that you can do with any synthesizer. I like subtractive synthesizer like the Nord Lead 3 and the MURF pedal from Moog. Thanks for checking this out.
