Ibanez RG350DX: Rowbi Shreds Up Forums To Become A Gearwire MVP Candidate
It seems that a lot of Gearwire MVP Candidates have a penchant for Line 6 gear, and Line 6 forum regular Rowbi is a very dedicated guitarist who is also into the POD effects.
What is your background?
I've been playing guitar for around 10 years.
How did you get started in music and what advice would you give to someone who just started?
Don't get a teacher as they often push you in the direction they went. Do your own thing, play what you like listening to, and use youtube for guitar lessons :-)
Who are your musical influences and what genre do you listen to most?
I listen to all sorts of music, but it's mostly rock, blues, and metal. (My) Influences are Vai, Satriani, ZZ Top, Iron Maiden, Status Quo ...
What's your inspiration?
I just like hearing what's coming out of my amp ... and thinking, "Wow, that Line 6 gear is good!"
What's your motivation for helping people out on forums?
It's so frustrating when you can't figure something out, but if I can help, then it means someone gets more guitar playing time!
What's your favorite piece of gear and why? What gear do you use?
The list could be endless: Line 6 PODxt, Atomic Reactor amp, and Ibanez RG350DX is my main rig, and it's all my favorite gear (especially the evolution bridge pickup in the Ibanez... it rocks).
What are your favorite sources for gear-related information?
I usually use Google, and it brings me the info I need.
What's the best music related advice you've ever given?
Listen to your ears, not to other people!
What's the best music related advice you've ever received?
Most online retailers have at least a 7 day returns policy :-) Try it out, and if you don't like it, send it back.
What's the best and worst thing about being a musician?
Best: hearing great tunes coming from my amp.
Worst: not getting enough time to play some days.
What is the best and worst thing about online forums?
They're great for getting info or opinions on gear before you buy it. They're bad because some people's only aim in life is to argue and flame because no one knows who they are!

You've obviously never been to the line6 forums... they talk about everything!!! No, seriously they do!

Just some trivia: I played guitar and sang while performing Metallica - "Nothing Else Matters" for my GCSE music performance exam, and afterwards the head of the music dept. at my school asked to borrow the Black Album. He said he only ever listened to classical and easy listening usually, but that sounded really good... obviously he didn't realize that was probably one of Metallica's mellowest songs. God, was he in for a shock! lol
