MXL Microphones UR-1 USB Ribbon Microphone Announced
At the 2011 Winter NAMM Show, MXL microphones debuted the UR-1 USB ribbon microphone, the latest in the company's line of USB microphones.
The UR-1 combines a classic ribbon diaphragm design with modern electrical circuitry to match the input requirements of analog-to-digital converters, and USB output with low noise and high dynamic range. According to MXL, the new UR-1 mic employs the classic mellow sound of a ribbon microphone that's most often associated with the great music recordings of such vocal legends as Frank Sinatra, with new age electronics that allow the mic to plug into the USB port of a computer.
Housed in an all metal body with a double shielded grill, the mic features the "Larry King vintage look" from the golden age of radio and television, according to the manufacturer. Aesthetically appealing and ideal for on-camera use, its design, electronics, and big ribbon sound make the UR-1 a go-to mic for recording vocals, including singing, voiceovers, and Podcasting. A volume control and headphone jack on the unit allows for real-time monitoring, with any latency.
"MXL is a well known and respected microphone manufacturer," states Perry Goldstein, Sales and Marketing Manager at MXL. "We have taken our expertise in XLR microphone manufacturing and moved it into the new digital space. As digital audio recording grows, there is a demand for a variety of sounds. Performers are looking for a less digital sound. The UR-1 meets that demand.
"We are the first in the industry to combine new age recording technology with classic microphone design. The sound of a ribbon mic is ageless. It will certainly give today's artists a new dimension to their recordings."
The UR-1 USB ribbon microphone will be available by June of 2011, for $495 (MSRP). For more information, please visit mxlmics.com.
