Dunlop MXR Distortion III: Just The Music

June 22, 2007
Dunlop's MXR Distortion III Pedal Demonstration
The MXR Distortion III is Dunlop's latest classic MXR pedal, joining the ranks of the Phase 90 and Dyna Comp. It falls somewhere between a lighter overdrive and the richer harmonic content of a full on distortion pedal. You may have heard about it from Winter NAMM, but now you can hear it for real in the studio. It messes with a doubleneck in the Gearwire video.
Check out the official Jim Dunlop website for more info.

Sounds good, but does it have the output?

By: Anonymous Coward
Sounds like a nice pedal, especially on the rhythm parts. Is it just a Distortion Plus with a tone knob? If so, I ran a very similar set up with an SG Standard, Distortion Plus, and a 60's Champ. Only two things I didn't like about the Distortion Plus 1st: Not enough output. I ran the Distortion at about 9 o'clock, and with that amount of lower distortion, there was a noticeable drop in volume with the pedal engaged. I had to run a boost pedal and the Dist + in a loop. 2nd: No tone knob of course. I thought the pedal was a little shrill in the higher gain settings. MXR has solved this problem with the addition of a tone pot. I’m very interested in this pedal.
