DAN AGOSTO: Hi. Welcome to Gearwire. We’re taking a look at the MXR Phase 90 pedal. It’s a very simple pedal used by a lot of players and has a great sound to it as well. So, let’s take a look at what’s in the box.
All right. We’ve got MXR catalog, a lot of the different products in it. We have the registration card (MXR is owned by Dunlop so you’re sending your registration to Dunlop), a little advertisement for the power source (you could power a good amount of pedals on this), and then also a catalog for the different Cry Baby models offered by Dunlop.
Let’s take a look at the pedal. All right. so, it comes with these little rubber rings that can go around the knobs. It can be used to protect the knobs. It also can be used if you need to turn the knob with your feet while on stage. I usually don’t put mine though. So basically, it’s a very simple pedal. We see one knob, one bypass switch. We got standard 1/4” inputs. Also there’s an input on here for AC power. You could use the Brick that they advertised or a separate adapter. We’re going to run it on batteries though. If you want to run it on batteries, you’re going to need a Phillips-head screwdriver to take the back off and it will go right in there. So, that’s the MXR Phase 90 pedal out of the box.
Hi. Welcome back, and we’re looking at the Phase 90. It’s all plugged in and ready to go. I’m playing through a Gretsch Duo Jet Guitar and a Marshall JCM2000 stack. Let’s see what kind of sound we’re getting with just the guitar.

All right. Let’s turn the pedal on.

All right. We see that’s a pretty intense sort of phase effect. We really don’t have any control over the intensity on it but we do have control over the speed that’s the single knob on here. We can go pretty slow, sort of get more of a slow sweeping modulation effect.

We can see how that kind of slowly changes over time. More subtle of an effect, and we’re also going to get pretty fast on it as well.

I’m going to switch to the neck pickup on the guitar. We’ve been using the bridge pickup.

So, that’s the MXR Phase 90 pedal. Thanks for checking it out on Gearwire.Com.
