Nady TRM-6 Tube Ribbon Mic: Hybrid Mic Results From Marriage Of Two Series
As someone who has worked on numerous escalator entrapment cases, it's good to see that Nady's escalating lines of tubes and ribbon microphones have not ended in disaster, but celebration. The TRM-6 Tube Ribbon microphone combines the properties of tube mics and ribbon mics, and here we get a nice overview of what properties of the combo mics come from which of their ancestors.
NADY REPRESENTATIVE: We move into other ribbon mics that are designed a little more purpose based. The RSM-4, for example, is a round element with a ribbon in the center of the round element, and what its primary idea is for, it’s great for vocals or for instruments in live applications. It’s a good, good microphone to use for instrument cabinet mic’ing, also very good for other acoustic instruments, pianos, quartets, things like that.
We have a similar one in the RSM-5. It’s element capsule shape, even though it’s a full ribbon inside of that, it’s acoustically designed so that it captures a little more ambiance. Very good microphone for ambient sound, excellent for vocals, excellent for instrument mic’ing and acoustic instruments.
We also have instrument and vocal microphones with the large ribbon design meant for bringing out accurate clarity, that warmth of tone that everyone is looking for in their mixes. All of these microphones work very well either for studio or broadcast applications. We’re very excited to be able to bring these out but it doesn’t stop there. It also continues with our condenser microphones. We have a tube condenser microphone here, the TCM-1050. What you have inside of here is a large diaphragm, gold-sputtered capsule. It has an active tube circuit inside of it that goes actually into this power control box that has a stepped switch on here that allows you to change the polar pattern of this microphone incrementally, from the figure-eight pattern all the way to omnidirectional. Really, really great mic, excellent output, great sound, very flexible.
From there, getting back to our ribbon mic lineup real quick, another piece that we’re very excited to bring to the market is the tube ribbon mic. This is the classic ribbon design with a large ribbon area but it also incorporates the tube in the front end of it so it that it gives a very accurate, very warm response, excellent output.
All of these microphones are available for well under a thousand dollars. In fact, the most expensive microphone in our lineup is coming in right around $600. So, when you look at other companies’ microphones that people have considered to be standards of the industry for years and you spend a thousand dollars for one piece, you can literally equip your entire studio for about that same price rather than just buying one mic. Very excited to bring these out to the market.
