Namba Big Namba Studio Backpack Has Nothing To Do With "Take Your Son To Work" Day
You may be in the market for a backpack that can carry your mobile studio gear, and you may have stumbled upon the Namba Big Namba Studio Backpack and thought to yourself "self, that's the perfect backpack for porting my mobile studio." You may even be doing additional research to find out, for example, where one can purchase the Big Namba, but we urge to you to consider that impending purchase from all angles.
Yes, this backpack is made specifically for recording studio gear. Yes, it features enough room for a 17" laptop and a two-octave keyboard controller. Yes, the bag is also equipped with cable-ties as part of an integrated cable management system and yes, it even contains a "secret stash" pocket. That's not where our concerns lie.
Nor are we dissuaded by the fact that the Big Namba features lockable zippers, holds 12" vinyls and audio devices, sports a convenient carry handle, extra thick padding and extra wide shoulder straps with integrated phone pocket. These are all good things, as is the included membership-with-purchase to the Broadjam online community.
No, what concerns us is the possibility that, by wearing this backpack, you may be mistaken for someone who belongs to a different "online community" altogether. How else can we say this?
Just don't carry your equipment in this backpack to your next Jonas Brothers session.

Cheap Shot Owen
Thanks for the great coverage on the release of Namba Gear's Big Namba Studio Backpack. But a cheap shot in your title and dissing the company's name. I'll lay odds you live in N. California as no one else knows what you are talking about.
Although Namba is one of the most famous shopping areas in the world (Osaka, Japan), our name comes from two tribes of people within the 83 islands of Vanuatu in the South Pacific, the Big Nambas and the Small Nambas. This starts to explain the name of our Big Namba Studio Backpack. Sorry, you'll have to read our blog about how we got our name for the whole story.

We did go read your blog for the whole story, and I probably spent too much time already reading other things. Here's a GW recommended link for everyone else:
Namba Gear Name Origins
I'd venture to say that more people actually know of Owen's reference (thanks Jon Stewart!) than they do of Vanuatu (though against this statement, I became familiar with Vanuatu first), but even you have to admit that Owen's tongue-in-cheek reference was at least in the same type of ballpark (let's call ours Candlestick Park and yours the Home of the Green Monster (though against this statement, we're nowhere near N. California)).
Anyway, your blog has turned us into fans. Hope the vague, esoteric references haven't riled you up all too much -- we figure the portion of our readership who gets it is also smart enough to discern the real information from our facetious implications and tangents.
We Love New Namba Gear Blog Fans!
Thanks for supplying the GW recommended link to our Namba Gear name story; and the irony of our name blog vs what Owen wrote is not lost on us and is admittedly pretty funny.
Our totally unscientific research regarding the NAMBA name being rarely misrepresented, other than from folks in N. California, stems from exposure at AES NY last year, the Anaheim NAMM show this year and to countless thousands of artists, retailers and distributors. Until this tongue-in-cheek reference by GW, we have had exactly 5 people, all from the San Francisco Bay area, draw this erroneous correlation.
We just think it would be shameful if anyone were actually dissuaded from making a Big Namba Studio Backpack purchase because of something said from facetious implications and tangets. Really, the truth of the name is a much better story. This is simply a great bag for musicians, and Owen made that point very clear!

check out the blog entitled, "The Secret of Recording Music and Keeping Your Wife." A true story of my friend, J. Chris Griffin, a NYC mixing engineer (Madonna, Janet Jackson, the Corrs) and his wife, Janet. This was my 1st blog, so it is buried in the Dec 07 Archive.
