When it comes to microphones, Chris Shepard at Chicago Recording Company doesn't have anything less than the best. Luckily for us, he also likes talking about them. Hear all about the Neumann U67 -- two of them, even -- in the following Gearwire video.

CHRIS SHEPARD: Microphones are really the trick of the trade. Having a great microphone collection is probably the most important.

Everyone has their favorite mics they like to use on certain things, but it’s always fun to try new ones because that’s really where you start getting your sounds right at the microphone. We have vault where we keep all of our microphones. They’re probably our most treasured possessions here at the studio. We’d trade Pro Tools Rigs for microphones any day.

Down here a little further, we have a U67. It looks a lot like an 87, but this is a 67 tube. We have two of these, and once again having two of something just makes it nice so you can mic things in stereo. U67s get used a lot here on piano, drum kits, guitar amplifiers. They have a lot of drive and a lot of bit to them.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
