Neve

The silky smooth texture-laden features of Rupert Neve's new rackmount module will knock your plain white cotton socks off.  

Mr. Jimmy Shaw of Metric, ever talented and respectably gear-nerdy, was simply delighted to talk to Gearwire about the sweet challenge of finding vintage gear online. One of Shaw's most important studio fixtures came from our fair city of Chicago. It's a Neve 5432, and if you've listened to Metric, you better believe you've heard it already.  

We check out some more features on the Neve 5088 console at Gravity Studios, and Doug McBride explains some more of the reasons that its the console of choice at his studio. I, on the other hand, haven't fully figured out my computer keyboard. I keep pressing the Tab button expecting an ice cold can of saccharine-filled-soda goodness, but my thirst remains unquenched.

Brian Beken and Dennis Ludiker of South Austin Jug Band recorded their latest release on tape instead of using digital equipment. It's a whole different world, but ultimately, they feel it was worth it.

Angel Alanis has worked with clients such and Dusttraxx, Greenskeepers, DJ Colette, and Johnny Fiasco. Although busy producing and releasing music under his own A Squared Music, he is also one of Chicago's go-to guys in the world of dance music mastering.  

We check out studio SSL4 at Record Plant Studios where we see the SSL 9000 J and talk about some of the artists who have recorded at Record Plant over the years. Among them are Michael Bolton, Mariah Carey, and recent Grammy Award winners, Slayer.  

Allen Sides, at Ocean Way Studios, shows us Studio D, complete with their Custom Neve 88R mixing console and a tiny wall full of gear. Like most greater studio gear, there's an even greater story behind how it all got there, and Mr. Sides tells it in this video.
