AES Vienna: NTI Minirator Walkthru Video

May 25, 2007
NTI Minirator

Thomas Hupp from NTI was nice enough to give us a walkthrough of the NTI Minirator. One of the things that the Minirator can do is test cables. Not only can it test to see if a cable is working but it will also check its frequency response. That would probably be a bit overkill but it does mnean that the Minirator can be used to test all sorts of audio systems and circuitry.

Check out this video that we shot on the floor of the 122nd AES convention to learn more.

Check out the official NTI Audio website for more details.

THOMAS HUPP: Hello altogether. I’m Thomas Hupp from NTI from Lichtenstein. NTI is a measurement producer for instruments like you see here up to end-of-line testers for handy manufacturers or transducers and microphone manufacturers. We are showing our new generator family, the MR2 and MR-PROwhich are high-quality portable analog audio generators. There’s balanced mixer output and also unbalanced RCA output. There’s USB connections for uploading wave files. We can then playback Mr. Minirator MR-PRO

Minirator Mr. Pro basically can generate a whole list of high-quality wave file -- test sequences starting with sine wave signals. There’s very good distortion values down to 0.0016%. We have high-output levels up to 80 dBu and some very smart features like measuring the output impedance, showing the phantom power voltage of the connected signal or connected cable and also a balanced indicator showing if the connected cable is okay or not.

There are some measurement features also included in this analog audio generator like the cable test. Cable testing is done, there’s an impedance measurement, so then we connect the cable from the XLR output to the XLR input and it can show if it’s connected correct. I just will fetch a cable for you. Just hold on.

We connect the cable to the output and the input, select the cable test function, and we see if the connection is okay. We also can do this from a remote connector on this side. We have a little plug here. If I have a cable which is already installed, you can use this plug on the other side and it shows the cable is okay.

This unit is operated from three batteries, has a battery lifetime of 10 hours or longer, shock protection around the house, and a hand strap so that it cannot be loose when you go out in real situations onstage.

My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
