Numark D2 Director Features: Musikmesse 2007 Video
JOHN CLARK: I’m John Clark. I work for Numark Industries, and right now I’m just going to show you through D2 Director, which is a USB or USB key media player. Basically, you load your songs onto the USB keys. They could be MP3s, wave, WAV format, or AAC from iTunes, and basically you just turn your unit on, plug your key in, and basically just select the songs that you want to play.
There’s a lot of different ways that you can find the music. You can either browse by [CLEARS THROAT] -- excuse me -- the tracks and do it that way, or you can do -- you can form a search using the keyboard. The keyboard obviously makes it very easy to find a track, a particular track that you’re looking for. In this case, I’m going to find this track here. Once you found the song that you want to play, you have to send it to deck A or deck B, in this case I’ll send it here, and play and then you use your mixer just to fade across.
Also, you can select by albums. So, if you’re looking for a particular song by an album or by artist, you can do that too. There’s some artists there, and also you can import playlist. So, if you’ve prepared your music on iTunes or another music management program, you can connect it up and here’s the songs which I’ve prepared earlier, and that’s great if you know you’re going to play certain songs at a gig or if you want to organize some, you know, if you’re a wedding DJ and you’ve got certain tunes you want to play or something like that, you can prepare them before the gig.
Also we’ve got our crate function. The crate is like a play list except you can add songs to it from anywhere. If you’ve got two or three hard drives or up to 12 actually, hard drives, you can put songs into the crate, which is quite a cool feature because in the crate you can work from here, you can send songs to the crate, you can pull them back from the crate. If you want to play one later and someone’s asked for you to play a certain song and you can play it in the unit. Very flexible.
There’s also the file browser. If you’re the kind of DJ that wants to organize your files into folders on a hard disk, you can browse them directly, and you know, again, it’s very flexible. And yeah, basically this unit it’s fully upgradeable, so if you want to download the latest firmware with new features and stuff, you can download that from the Numark web site, plug in your USB key and install it. It’s all very easy to use, and yeah. To wrap up, it’s a hard drive player, you can select songs easily, and it’s a great price.
