Numark Ns6: New Four-Channel DJ Controller With Built-In Mixer For Serato Itch
DJ gear maker Numark introduced the new NS6 DJ controller for Serato Itch at Winter NAMM 2011. The NS6 is a professional four-channel digital DJ controller with a built-in mixer and four decks of software control.
Designed in collaboration with Serato, this dual-platter system borrows from the designs of Numark's NS7FX and V7 controllers and delivers significant new features, such as responsive, high-resolution touch-activated platters, wheels that deliver 3,600 ticks of resolution per rotation, automatically adjusted platter sensitivity, and more.
In addition to its control functionality, the NS6 contains a fully functional four-channel digital mixer that can be used with or without the computer. What's more, the NS6 takes has position indicators that allow the DJ to always know track position, giving DJs one less reason to need to look at the screen. Bi-Color LEDs also surround the wheel, providing both an indication of the Deck in control and also a Deck's playback status. Effects can be accessed instantly by channel.
The simple design of NS6 includes mouseless Serato library navigation, Key Lock, complete Pitch Control, manual and instant Looping, and Hot Cues. Other features new to this model include direct access to beat grid controls and beat skip, which allows DJs to juggle the track inline with the beat so that it never loses sync.
The NS6 also features a professional 24-bit audio interface with a full array of inputs and outputs, including XLR outputs, Headphone out, two mic inputs, two phono inputs, four line-level inputs, and USB to connect the system to a Mac or PC.
Serato's Itch DJ software comes with the NS6, offering tight integration between controller and software. The NS6 also employs control technology from the Numark NS7, in which turntable and control information are communicated between the hardware and software at more than ten times standard MIDI resolution. This data stream, according to the manufacturer, lends for solid, latency-free control. Because the NS6's communication is based upon MIDI, DJs can use it with a variety of MIDI software.
"NS6 is the first truly pro-grade DJ controller and standalone 4-channel mixer with effects," said Chris Roman, Product Development Manager, Numark. "There has never been this much versatility and control available for professional DJs."
