Yeah, But Do They Come With A Corkscrew? Open Labs' MiKo and NeKo

June 20, 2006
Open Labs audio interview
In this audio interview, Gearwire chats with Open Labs about the innovative MiKo portable media workcenter and its big brother, NeKo. Swiss Army Knife does not even begin to describe these things. Here's a bit of what's included: a computer (complete with QWERTY-type keyboard), a keyboard workstation (as in musical keyboard), a MIDI controller, a professional audio interface, a digital audio workstation (DAW), and a touch screen. Both models are intended as all-in-one solutions for electronic music, recording, music-for-film, and (from the looks of it) just about anything else you can think of. Open Labs is definitely breaking new ground with these contraptions -- something we always like to see.

It also features an optical out for home theater. You have Ethernet, USB 2, FireWire, and optional wireless adapter. Under the hood, you’re running a single core AMD64 processor with a 512 RAM, upgradable to 4 GB and also upgradable to a dual-core model as well. You have a 180-GB hard drive.
