Orange Amps Show Off the AD200 at Summer NAMM 2007

For a long while, Orange has been a leader in quality, big sound guitar amps. The AD200 is their attempt to tackle the bass amp, and it is quite the feat of amp engineering.

This 200 Watt amp head delivers all of the headroom you need, so feel free to crank your bass, because this baby "goes to 11".

[ADRIAN PLAYING BASS GUITAR THROUGH THE ORANGE AD200

ROB WARMOWSKI: Hey pointers and clickers, this is Rob from Gearwire, and we’re here at Summer NAMM 2007. I’m here with Adrian from Orange Amps. How are you, Adrian.

ADRIAN: Not too bad, not too bad.

ROB WARMOWSKI: We’re here to talk about the Orange bass amp, the AD200 Bass Mark III. Adrian, tell us a little bit about this unit here.

ADRIAN: Well, this is the only true bass amp we make. It’s the only real bass amp we make to be honest. It’s probably the simplest bass head on the planet with just five big knobs -- Whoa -- two big knobs, three little ones. You just got going bass, middle, treble, and master. That’s all tube, it’s 200 watts. It runs on four 6550’s. You can put KT88’s in there if you want.

Two 12AX7’s and one 12AT7. It’s a pretty popular model. We’re selling loads of these, and if you need more power, you just use two of them but I’ve never had complaints about volume, you know.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Can you explain a little bit about the difference between the active and the passive inputs.

ADRIAN: It’s kind of just a loose rough guide really. You know, I mean I’m putting an active bass through the passive and it sounds fine, you know. It depends. Some basses will overdrive the input too much so you just use the active but it’s not. Take that with a pinch of salt. It’s just high and low sensitivity really.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Chances are there’s a pad on the active.

ADRIAN: Yeah. Basically, it’s what you like the sound of. There’s no rules. You’re not going to blow anything up, you know, from doing that.

ROB WARMOWSKI: Well, speaking of blowing stuff up, we’re going to check out Adrian cranking through the AD200 right about now.
