Retro Combo Time Machines: Orange Handwired Combo Amps

February 05, 2007
Orange Amps Presents its retro combo amps
Orange Amps couldn't build a time machine, so they did what they think is the next best thing: they built a set of Orange retro combo amps. The Retro 50 hand-wired amps will take you straight back to 1971, or so says the Orange rep. He is quite proud of another model - the AD50 - calling it an "out and out tone machine." Intrigued? Click the vid, and for those unfamiliar with Orange Amps, don't adjust your display colors, the amps really are THAT shade of Orange. If your band van breaks down, you can stick 'em in the road as a warning cone - they're easily spotted a mile away!
More info is at the Orange Amps official site.

ADRIAN: Good afternoon. This is Orange and new for the show, we got a couple of 2 x 12 combos. We got the Retro 50 hand-wired 30-watt, 50-watt 2 x 12 vintage Celestions in a combo version. Previously, we’ve only had them in head. The Retro 50 is a caricature of the original early ‘70s Orange sound and it’s taking you straight back to 1971 when you plug it in.

Okay. Also new for the NAMM show this year, we have the AD50 Custom Shop 2 x 12 combo, all hand-wired, 30 watts class A, 50 watts class AB, and it is just an out and out tone machine to be quite honest with you. Everything’s in there from crystal clean all the way through to vintage crunch there’s not really a lot else I can say. You just have to hear it really.

Speakers, we basically got a G12M 20-watt Heritage mixed with a G12H 30 watts at 55 Hz. It’s a great combination. You plug that in, turn it up, patent pending, and you’ve got yourself a sound.

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
