Orange Amps Smartpower Bass Cabinets: Orange Goes Green (Sort Of)
While the term "Smartpower" may conjure images of wind turbines towering majestically over wheat fields or vaguely DNA-looking halogen screw-socket light bulbs, the new Orange Smartpower Bass Cabinet series aren't exactly standard-bearers for energy efficiency. in fact, if anything, the Smartpower cabs will inspire more widespread use of high-power bass amplification. These new enclosures may be compact and lightweight but are also capable of very high wattage handling and high volumes. Sorry, Earth, but this rock must go on.
The Smartpower series is comprised of three models, the SP210 (2x10, 600 watts), the SP212 (2x12, 600 watts), and the SP410 (4x10, 1200 watts). Built to complement the Tiny Terror Bass head, these cabs are compact -- according to Orange's press material, the SP210 "[comes] in a little over 30 cms square!" I'm not sure exactly how British-measures of spacial volume work (shouldn't it be "cubed"?) but it still seems small. The cabinets are also lightweight thanks to the use of neodymium speaker magnets and birsh-ply construction. The SP410 and the SP212 are pictured below, respectively:

To balance out the release of the Smartpower cabs, Orange has also announced the arrival of a new 8x10, the OBC810, outfitted with casters and rubberized grip handles for "easy" transport. 'Cause hey, there's always that guy who can't give up his Humvee, no matter how bad it hurts his back / gas mileage.
