Orange County Drums Custom Snare: Please, Don't Call Them "The O.C." Drums

Orange County Drums Custom Snare Wild Sweet Orange

So many great custom-made products come out of Orange County: Choppers, Housewives and now, drums. Orange County drums have been played by many alt-rock giants, including Chad Sexton, Adrian Young and Travis Barker, but even laid-back rootsy-types like Chip Kilpatrick from Wild Sweet Orange dig them.

You'd think a band called Wild Sweet Orange would be getting free kits from Orange County Drums, but it looks like Chip plays Orange for the sole reason that he really likes the way they sound. Also, they'll cover your drums in fur if you ask them, apparently.

Wrong O.C.

By: Scott (not verified)

O.C. Choppers is east coast. O.C. Drums are in the west coast O.C. :) Sorry, someone had to point that one out.

CHIP KILPATRICK: Hey. I’m Chip from Wild Sweet Orange. I play the drums.

Well right now, I’m using an Orange County Snare that I’ve had for about five years. I ordered a complete custom kit from them. I didn’t play in that snare for a while and I like a lot. It’s a 20-ply, and I guess I just bought a new drum set though which is a Ludwig Classic kit, and so I’m looking for -- it didn’t come with a Ludwig snare so I’m looking for an older ‘70s Ludwig snare.

PATRICK OGLE: Mmm hmm.

CHIP KILPATRICK: Getting that Orange County is at that time when I ordered that kit, they were kind of in the forefront of the whole custom like, you know, take a picture of your dog’s hair and we can make a drum set look like that, you know, like they were kind of that were doing that. The best, just whatever you can dream of, they can do it. So, I really liked that at the time, and you know your taste changes, you know, and I ordered that kit when I was 16 years old and so, you know, but I’m 25 now and so, you know, I’ve kind of moved into more vintage. I appreciate that more now and the more classic finishes and stuff, and so the older companies are more appealing to me now.
