Clip Based Effects - HAH!

By: Jake
I don't work for Sonar. Let me get that out of the way first. But I will say this. The clip or 'object' based effects options are not new to Sequoia. Sonar has offered this foor years now. Sonar has been so far way ahead of everyone that they are still all playing catch-up. I heard Ableton Live is bragging it can be 64 bit in some ways... in their latest version. Big deal. Sonar was 64 bit float end to end for years too. Sonar. Not just a poor-man's pro-tools but the best as far as sound / flexibility. In their latest version they yet again took a new step up and will continue to lead DAWs.

Sonar vs. Samplitude

By: j

The notion that a 64 bit float DAW will sound better than a 32 bit float DAW is purely a marketing gimmick. A straw man. Any mathematical "advantages" in precision are beneath the resolution of your DACs, let alone your ears. While there may be OS/hardware compatibility questions for which 64 bit float is a solution, it is an insignificant issue as far as sound quality is concerned.

To Follow Up

Oh. And Sequoia costs several times what the absolute best version of Sonar costs. They figure the higher price tag means better quality. NOT. And you can do everything, from recording to final mastering in the Sonar program also. Yes, it does lack a CD-Burning option, but it's not so hard to bounce out the audio and then put it together (all the songs) in a program made for burning CDs. I'm sure they'll get that part built into it eventually. It's more steps, it's not 'convenient'. But I only care about sound quality and ease of work when recording/mixing and mastering. Burning a CD isn't a biggie. It's never stopped me from doing that... And I sound better doing it for less $$.

I think the difference is

I think the difference is that the editing with Sequoia is object-orientated rather then object-oriented ... you're paying for the extra "at" :) Thanks - you bring up several good points.
