Other World Computing Mercury On-The-Go 500GB: Is That A 500GB Hard Drive In You Pocket?
Other World Computing has announced what they claim is the highest capacity portable external hard drive: the Mercury On-The-Go 500GB. Isn't that name a little redundant? Isn't Mercury basically always on the go?
Regardless, 500GB is quite a bit of storage for a bus-powered, USB 2.0, Firewire 800 / 400 external storage device. Do phrases like "bus-powered" get you all hot and bothered? How about 5400 RPM for low disk seek times? Yeah, that's the stuff. Did we mention the see-through high-impact plastic casing? Maybe you should grab some air first.
The On-The-Go drivers are super compact -- 3.5"(W) x 5.5"(D) x 1"(H) -- and weigh less than 11 ounces. And the fact that they're bus-powered means they're the perfect match for a portable laptop recording studio.
All drives in the On-The-Go series come with a classy little carrying case, all requisite connective cabling, and a suite of memory management utilities for Windows and Mac OS. There is even a 0GB version, for all you customizer-freaks out there. You know who you are. And so does Google. Just a heads-up.

Cool but..
5400rpm doesn't seem so impressive
no, it doesn't
I'm guessing they are assuming most people don't know the difference.
