No stranger to Infocomm, EAW introduced a bevy of new products at the most recent show. They sought to make evenly dispersed and focused waves both figurative and literal with the new EAW NTL720 Line Array Loudspeaker System, unveiled at the show.  

You may think that a line-array is composed of a series of high-wattage wedge enclosures, and, well, you're right, but the new JBL CBT series of passive column arrays seems like a convenient and compact alternative to cumbersome, multi-component line-arrays in small to mid-sized venues.  

A blurred and washed-up sound due to a lot of canceled frequencies are among a string of complaints by drummers who are fed up with usual stage monitoring. In-the-ear monitors on the other hand can be irritating and can make the drummer feel detached from his instrument, as he hears mostly the mix and less of the natural resonance of his kit. Responding to the needs of the band's dear timekeeper, the EAW MicroWedge Series MicroSub has been unveiled.  

Focused, isolated sound at high-output levels is the live sound engineer's Holy Grail. The vaguely-Gallic-sounding "CADIS" in the HK Audio CADIS Installation Array is actually an acronym, standing for "Compact ADaptive Installation System." If that's confusing to you, know that "cadis" translates from German to the English "cadis," meaning "absolutely nothing whatsoever."

OK, I did find one possibly related meaning: "cadis" is the plural form of "cadi" which is the term for a judge in Islamic countries. So, yeah, the reference is obvious, right? . . . right?  

Seems like everywhere you go these days, no matter what the size of the venue, there's a line array. Don't believe me? I wouldn't either. Believe the EAW JFL210 compact line array instead. It's targeted towards small clubs and even DJs. DJs!!!  

The Fohhn XM-4 is a study in extremes: extremely high power handling and extremely high fidelity in an extremely small enclosure with an extremely expected price tag.

We rejoin Simon Jones to take a look at the last piece of the new EON 500 series, the JBL EON 518S. This powered sub boasts 500 watts out of an 18" speaker while simultaneously sharing its power with any passive speakers you might have.  

JBL's Simon Jones is back for another video that'll get you in beach shape. In our look at the JBL EON 510, Simon tones it down for a more cardio-vascular endurance test in comparison to his EON 515 demo, which was a pure muscle-builder.  

We've got more from the 125th AES show where we return to JBL's booth at AES. Simon Jones shows us the EON 315 speaker, part of the new generation of EONs, and he highlights the differences between the 300 and 500 series.  

We check out the JBL EON 305 passive speaker at the 125th AES Convention. I've already thoroughly booed myself because of the awful pseudo-pun in the above headline.

Alcons announced a new passive line array element -- the LR14-90 -- that promises to be lighter, yet more powerful than the competition. For those keeping track, "lighter but more powerful" is the line array equivalent of beer's "tastes great, less filling."  

Mike Ward is the head Sound Engineer at Suncrest Christian Church in St. John Indiana, and he gave Gearwire a look at the house-of-worship's Bose PA. Among other things, Mr. Ward explained why the placement of the speaker enclosures ended up being a bit, shall we say, unorthodox.  

The Lynx LX-V8 is the world's first line-array element to feature an on-board inclinometer, meaning the box knows where it is, and where it's facing at all times. I wonder how it does that?
