Hey Val, What model Vigier do you have? I have never played one before and I was wondering if they have special tuning heads or your just lightning fast at changing strings. I went to their website and checked out a few models. thanks.

DREW KRAG: All right guys. One more thing about the Paul Reed Smith line of guitars is their locking tuning heads, and I just want to make a note of this because I’ve seen in forums out there and a lot of people aren’t warming up to these very well, and it takes a minute to understand how they work, and with every Paul Reed Smith guitar, they give you a little sheet that kind of walks you through it. Well, it’s actually a really cool invention for a locking tuning head, and when you get it to work right, I can change six strings in probably three minutes, not even kidding. I’ve been able to change a string in less than 30 seconds on a gig in the middle of a song, which is pretty impressive. I can’t do that with any other guitar.

And so, give these things a chance. When you check it out, there’s a lot of people that really hate these tuning heads, and I’m going to explain why because there is a legitimate reason and that is the ratio isn’t that great meaning you turn it a little bit and the pitch goes really far, so they’re very sensitive. There’s really no way around that and that does take some getting used to. It’s not like tuning with a Gibson or a Fender and I think a lot of people compare these guitars to Gibsons and Fenders as far as how they tune. So, just be open-minded about these locking tunings.

It took me a while to get them. Actually, when you first get the guitar, it takes a little while to kind of, you know, get it to work right and you kind of have to lube them up a little bit and let them kind of take their course and use them a little while before they work to their maximum ability. So, just be open to the idea of these locking tunings. Don’t, you know, sell one of these guitars after changing the strings once and not liking it. You have to get used to it. It’s something new; you have to be open to it. But once you get them working right, they can really be your friend. Like I said, I’ve been able to change a string in a matter of 30 seconds on a gig, on the fly onstage, right then and there, busted an E string. Just throw in through the back, run across the front, put it through the lock, start turning, and pretty soon it’s tuned up and ready to go. So, I don't know any other guitar that I can change a string that quickly, so they are very beneficial if you give them a chance. Thanks for watching.
