Bassists rave on the net how well this bass works in a mix, stock, just using the onboard eq, 18-volt preamp, and and some outboard dynamics control. The key to a great rock sound is to put the bass and treble at neutral (only adding those if you pick or your strings are getting worn), the pickup blend between MusicMan humbucker-type and Jazz-bass type in the middle, and cranking the mid freq. & vol. almost to 10. The mid then gives you a broad boost at about 1.5kHz, unlike the squawking, narrow mid on entry-level mixers (1 oct. @ 2.5kHz) or graphic eq's (2/3rd oct. @ 800Hz on the Boss Bass Eq).

When these were made in the USA thru the 1990's, they listed for about $1,500, and sold for about $1,000, with case. Current going-rate is about $400, and it's the best $400 I ever spent. The tone is just so commanding...no fret buzz, and it tunes as stable as a rock. Mine had been abused with the pickups jacked-up, 130-gauge strings (this is a 4-string mind ya!), and the A-string nut-slot overdrilled. But I nursed her back to health and she's my #1.
