Pignose G-40V humbucker tone demonstration
You want more Pignose G-40V? You got it. In the latest Amp Lab, Drew Krag plays with the Epiphone doubleneck to get the sound of a humbucker through this all-tube baby. He tries to get a clean sound - even with all that saturation - and shows us how to do it. Regardless, "she screams!" Hear her scream in the Gearwire video...
Check out the G-40V at the official Pignose website.

Kill the stupid intro with the tapping. He looks like a complete a$$ and it sounds like rubbish. You're trying to be cute but it's just stupid and unprofessional!

DREW KRAG: But right now, I’m going to switch guitars for a moment, move over to this Epiphone double neck just so we can get the sound of a humbucker through this amp. It will take a minute for it to warm back up.

Woo. All right. So, as you see we have this Epiphone double neck. I’m going to be just using the bottom guitar. Unfortunately, this happens to be only one of the only guitars we have in the studio today that has the humbucker and a tone knob so we’re going to use this one, but we’ll go ahead and take a listen to the more distorted sounds with the humbucking pickup on this amp.

She screams and she sounds pretty good I have to admit. Let’s try a different pickup selection.

So, you can get some screaming blues sounds out of this amp no problem.

Now, the last tone I want to try is a more cleaner sound with the humbucking pickup. Now, this is a little bit more difficult. Like I mentioned earlier, you can’t escape the tube warmth of this amp and the saturation of it so let’s give it a shot. I’m going to turn the pre-volume down and the master back up. I’m going to roll off the treble just a little bit and turn the presence up a bit.

So, pretty good sound for jazz, something like that. If I roll off the tone a little bit more...

...that’s a pretty smooth jazz tone, but like I keep mentioning you can’t escape that tube sound. That -- It is what it is, but I do recommend this amp for blues, fusion, rock & roll, not so much for metal (I don’t think it’d be quite loud enough) or super heavy rock (probably not quite loud enough). I probably have to throw it up on a chair for rehearsals, that sort of thing, but blues, jazz, and anything with that warm saturated tone you’re good to go with this amp. Thanks for tuning in.

[LAUGHING]

GRETCHEN HASSE: [LAUGHING]

DREW KRAG: It works. It works very, very well. I get to keep this right?

GRETCHEN HASSE: Of course.

DREW KRAG: Hell yeah!

GRETCHEN HASSE: I mean....

I need awesome gear... I'd like a free gear catalog!
My opinion is awesome. I'd like to take a gear survey
