Planet Waves Glass Slides: The Secret To Thick, Warm Tone
At the 2010 Summer NAMM show in Nashville, Tennessee, Planet Waves, a division of D'Addario & Company, Inc., will be debuting its new line of Glass Slides for the guitar.
Planet Waves' new Glass Slides are said to have a 4 mm glass wall thickness with a flawless finish and extra-smooth surface to glide over a guitar's strings. This type of glass slide produces a warm, thick tone that's ever important for playing country, blues, rock, and folk music.
"Designed to produce a thick and warm tone, these new Glass Slides will accentuate the middle harmonics of your guitar," says Rob Cunningham, the company's product specialist. He continues, "Perfect for the blues, country, or rock, take your slide guitar playing to the next level with these high-quality glass slides."
For durability and smoothness, the Glass Slides are made from boron silicate and each slide is individually heat-treated to provide smooth edges and a perfect finish. Planet Waves' new Glass Slides will be available in small, medium, and large sizes for $7.99 (MSRP) each. The company expects to release the guitar slides officially in mid-summer, on or around August 1, 2010.
While it's true that you could probably make your own glass slide the old-fashioned way from a medicine bottle, buying one ready-made is far easier, not to mention thoroughly tested and proven to sound good. And at about 8 bucks each, these Glass Slides are an affordable enough accessory to keep on hand, literally, without breaking the bank.
