Planet Waves Modular Snake: Snakes On A Table

October 13, 2008
Planet Waves Modular Snake

Wiring up your studio? Perhaps you should consider the all new Planet Waves Modular Snake. The breakout cable makes switching out connector types super convenient. Also, like the classic arcade game "Snake," Planet Waves Modular Snake is growing at rapid rates, soon to be up to 50 feet. That's a pretty ferociously long snake.

BRIAN VANCE: Hello. I’m Brian Vance. I’m the product manager for Planet Waves and D’Addario Strings. Normally, we wouldn’t be at a show like this but we’ve got a new modular snake system here at AES that we’re debuting and it’s a very inventive, creative and simple way to manage your cabling for any kind of studio or live sound environment. Basically what we do is we have a core cable that comes in 5-, 10-, 25, and soon to be 50-foot lengths, and the user can just take their core cable, choose their length, and then you can plug in any series of breakouts for your end-use options, for your inputs or outputs. So, those come in to -- they come in AES/EBU, XLR male and female, TRS, soon to have TT plugs, and we also have a coupler so you can put together different lengths of cables and custom, you know. You could go 75 feet or 35 feet if you wanted to.

And the engineers and the studio people and the live sound people love it because it really enables you to, once you buy into the system, you can operate and you can move things around very quickly just by taking the breakouts in and out. You don’t have to completely buy a new snake or rewire something. I’ve had many engineers come and in dismay saying that they wish they knew about this a couple of weeks ago or a couple of months ago before they just wired their studio up because they really -- it does have some practical applications for everyday use for these guys.

So, you can check it out. It’s available. The best place is on PlanetWaves.com. There’s a whole tutorial there on how to use it and what it’s about, but it’s also available on a lot of retail stores and online around the country. We also offer a full line of other cabling to support this: musical instrument cables, microphone cables, speaker cables, etc. It’s all very high-quality products custom made to our specifications. So, we’d love for you to come visit the site and check it out.
