Ableton Live And Live Sound With Dan Demchuk
Circuit Bending 101's Dan Demchuk speaks about how he gets his toys to sound nice and loud on stage using little more than a Behringer Mixer, and DJ Livewire's Ableton Live beats.
The duo perform what is dubbed Electro-Glitch as HiFiHearts, a duo that combines beats made using Ableton Live with sonic creations stemming from a variety of electronic toys that have been modified with 1/4" outputs and Dan's Circuit Bending prowess.
DAN DEMCHUK: Hey. It’s Dan Demchuk again at the circuit bending workshop at the Paul Wall Manor. I spoke briefly about recording music, but right now I want to talk about playing music live.
I’ve done all kinds of live shows, gallery performances where I do a little bit more than ambient setup just using my Behringer mixer and the 1/4” outputs that I’ve installed on all these toys which I can also run 1/8” outputs too. I can go right into my mixer and then usually go into their PA System and get really good thick sounds out of these. It’s nice to hear your work that loud.
But I also do music with DJ Livewire, Danny [PH] Days. He uses Ableton Live and I’ll usually run all of my stuff from my Behringer mixer right into his Gemini mixer, and we do a lot of electro glitch, which is good, beat-driven stuff. He usually uses Ableton Live to create all his beats and then I’ll use my toys and stuff like that mainly for sound samples and sonic explosions and all kinds of really interesting electro sounds.
You guys can check us out online at Hi Fi Hearts and there’s all kinds of great stuff coming up. We work with Alex Zelenka right now also and Mr. Bobby. We did some stuff with him at his Latin Electronic Music Festival, and we also played Detroit Electronic Music Festival last year. Great, great time. So, if you’re ever interested in doing some of your own music, come on by at circuit bending workshop. I’m Dan Demchuk. I’ll teach you how.
