Cycling 74 Pluggo: PGS-1 Is As Its Acronym Implies
Even Pluggo plugins are taking advantage of Hollywood's fascination with comic book superheroes. The PGS-1 synthesizer names its various presets after such animated legends as the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Aquaman and Batman. Bill Holland hangs out with the Super Friends in this video for a look at the various oscillators, filters and sounds included with PGS-1.
*Disclaimer- PGS-1 is actually part of the Pluggo bundle, and is not included for free with Pluggo Junior. See the Cycling 7 website for more info.[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
BILL HOLLAND: Welcome back to Gearwire.Com. My name is Bill Holland, and you are listening to the Aquaman patch on the Two PGS-1 plugin that is Max-based. You can actually get this for free. It’s a Pluggo plugin that you can get off the Max web site and it’s a pretty cool sounding synth for being free. Check this out.

All these patches are named after super heroes. We also have the Incredible Hulk.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We have Batman.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Pretty cool sounding analog modeling patch there. You’ll notice we have three oscillators...
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...that change between sine, pulse, saw, triangle, and noise.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Change up the modulation of those patches.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Fine tuning for doing some basic detuning work or coarse tuning.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
And I can change these up as well.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Along with their envelope, attack, decay, sustain, and release are set up like a typical ADSR setup.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We have our LFOs available to us.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We’ll set up the second here.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
The VCAs.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
It controls the amount of LFO1 here or LFO2.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
And then each envelope can be reassigned and the attack and release can be controlled here in terms of the curve of the actual attack or release.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Let’s change up the patch real quick. We’ll go over to Iron Man...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...and take a look at the filters.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We got a low-pass filter here.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Notice this way we have cutoff...
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...and resonance.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We can also do a high pass...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...band pass...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...a band saw...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...and we can widen that up...
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...or narrow it...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...create a peak notch...
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...and change the size of that as well.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Low shelf...
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...or high shelf.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
We also have filter 2 which can be used in conjunction with this. So, if I wanted a low-pass filter --
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Also, we have delay controls over here. You’ll see we have delay time, delay feedback and delay mix.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
And we have overdrive.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Now, there are a variety of other patches available but they’re all based on the same engine.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Now, we have a variety of other patches available...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...some more bizarre than others...,
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
...some are better than others. Spider-Man.
[BILL HOLLAND PERFORMING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE CYCLING ’74 PLUGGO PGS-1]
Again, this is the PGS-1. It’s a Max/MSP plugin that works with Pluggo. All you have to do is go to the Max/MSP web site and download Pluggo run time and you can download the entire packet. I’ll be back with more on this Pluggo pack but for now this is Gearwire.Com and my name is Bill Holland.
