Power Amps

The joined forces of Peavey Electronics hardware and Waves DSP have spawned the new IPR DSP Series of power amplifiers, which let you dial in the exact amount of bass, high frequencies, EQ, and more.  

Known for -- among other things -- rock-solid medium to large venue sound systems, Electro-Voice arrived in Anaheim with their newest line of lower-cost amplifiers, the Q Series. Why Q? No idea. Stop asking Qs.  

We're back with Crown to try to fathom the power of their I-Tech series power amplifiers at 125th AES 2008. It's their premier touring amplifier, and as such, comes with a heavy feature set.  

The Crown Macro-Tech i power amps reinvent the image of the power amp as a whole, implementing smart front panel features with LED monitoring and even non-path-invasive digital control over analog gear.  

As if you couldn't get enough Van Hagar back in 1993, Peavey unleashed this goodie upon the world. Despite it's diagonal positioning in this ad, however, this amp turned out to be quite useful for touring artists.  

James Russell recently spoke to Gearwire about his Yamaha bass. Now he moves down the chain to talk about his power amp.

The Mackie / TAPCO booth promises to be a happening place at Summer NAMM (which starts tomorrow, BTW). One of the main attractions: the new TAPCO Mix10fxP Powered Mixer, which promises some seriously competitive watts-per-dollar numbers.  

Ryan Maeker is a sound designer in NYC, and though he may come off as a somewhat threatening figure in this interview -- all talking about cuttin' fools, hitting people with cars and even threatening the life of yours truly -- he's actually a total teddy bear with a soft spot for Speilberg movies!  

Mackie's FRS amps promise to deliver the best power-per-pound ratio in the business. Their target demographic? Grandmothers, apparently.  

Crown is bringing the Macro-Tech series back as the Macro-Tech i Series thanks to their newly developed technology and a wide load of research.  

QSC made a ceremonial announcement at Winter NAMM 2008 regarding the new GX series of power amps. Dr. Q discusses the design process of the GX series and how the heroic QSC design team managed to keep prices low while keeping audio quality high.  

Crown's XLS series just got a whole lot bigger with the addition of the XLS series. At 5000 watts in four-ohm bridge-mono mode, it's twice as powerful than any other XLS series amp and most likely some locomotives. It's also housed in an all steel chassis and poses as a mild mannered reporter by day.  

I hope that when I'm 60, I still look as good as the Crown Macro-Tech series amplifiers which are being re-released with an anniversary edition. To do so, I'd probably have to be plated in copper as well.

Over the pond in London at PLASA 2007 this September, MC2 Audio will be exhibiting their new E Series power amp, the E80. The E80 packs quite a punch, running 4000 Watts per channel at 4 ohms and 5500 Watts into 2 ohms.
