PreSonus AudioBox USB 2 x 2 audio interface software driver adds 64-bit functionality for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows

Available as a free download, the new software driver for the PreSonus AudioBox USB 2 x 2 audio interface adds 64-bit functionality for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. Note that the AudioBox is also class-compliant with Mac OS X 10.3.7 and later, including Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

The USB bus-powered, audio-recording interface features two combo microphone / instrument inputs with 48V phantom power, two balanced TRS outputs, and MIDI I/O. Beware presonus

By: Marc (not verified)

Presonus, in another forum battle, claimed that "Vista and 64bit drivers are hard to make" and that is why they are not available 1.5 years into Vista 64bit.

Instead of supporting a flagship product they made the 16:4 with a full suite of new software (that is totally not needed on the market).

Having had much USB/Firewire gear from Presonis the drivers were weak, slow to get bugs fixed, and of poor design.

Poor design? Yes, that is right (I am a programmer, I can smell it). One classic instance is the control panel for the Fire series. The CPanel used 4-15x more CPU than my DAW platform. On top of that it woudld not fit in 1200px wide screens, and was the root of most crashes.

In short, beware of Presonus.

One more - I remember the time they sent out an email blast to (us) beta testers where every other testers address was in the TO fields (over 3400). Not only a rookie move but also insulting and careless.

I often see reps on forums trying to defend these poor actions and they get shut down because they are far too notorious for bad practices.

So bring it on. I can dig out some cold truth from the archives...
