PreSonus FaderPort

RICK NAQVI: Hi. I’m Rick Naqvi with PreSonus Audio and we’re here at Austin Summer NAMM. And we’re showing the new FaderPort. The FaderPort is a complete automation and transport control for most DAWs. And basically the way that it works is you have full transport control so I can fast forward, rewind, hit play, stop, record. In addition, I can have a touch-sensitive motorized fader here that can be assigned to any of my tracks in my DAW. You can also switch to different window views. So when I hit this button, it switches and makes the mix window appear. And I can also, once the mix window is open, you can see I can go from channel to channel using the left and right buttons. And then if I need to go like, let’s say if I have a big project that has let’s say 32 tracks, if I hold down bank and go right then it will go right in increments of eight channels at a time. So four clicks and I’m all the way to the end of the 32 channels. You also have an output channel select button. When I hit Output, it jumps to the Master Fader so I can do master fade-outs and that kind of a thing.
With regards to the Fader, you have different modes to accommodate all of the different DAWs. Right now I’ve got the Fader in Read and Write mode. So if I go over to a particular channel that already has some automation written and I hit play, you’ll see that it’s actually emulating the past automation that’s been written here on the screen. Now what’s great is that since it’s in Write mode, as soon as I touch the Fader, if you look at the screen, it’ll basically start writing new automation. And then the second that I let go of the Fader, it’ll go back into the previous automation that was written. It’s really, really easy to basically punch in, so to speak, with your automation using the different modes of the FaderPort.
The FaderPort also will allow you to control any Fader so when I go from channel to channel, and you can see these channels on the screen have different volumes and if you look at the actual Fader on the piece of hardware, when I switch channels on the screen, you’ll see the Fader move on the FaderPort. So, I can grab a Fader right here and control it, or I can grab my mouse and grab the Fader here and it’s going to control the piece of hardware.
We are going to provide support for all of the major DAWs with the FaderPort including Pro Tools, Cubase, Nuendo and many others to come. And the FaderPort will be shipping as soon as probably August.
