Primacoustic Machine Room: A-MAZE-Ing Sound Isolation At 125th AES

Primacoustic Machine Room At AES

The Primacoustic Machine Room is a great solution for computers with noisy fans, and the problem it solves hits really close to home with me. As Peter Janis from Radial Engineering and Primacoustic states, "the fan noise can be painful."

Every time I have an autograph signing, I know what he's talking about. The fans can get out of control. I appreciate the support, but when you've got thousands of people lined up for blocks to get my signature, people tend to get a little rowdy in the presence of a legend in the online copy writing business. I mean, sure, my article on the Gibson Go For The Gold contest earned me a Pulitzer, but enough is enough. If you all can't keep the noise and the rioting under control, I'm going to have to cancel my next few scheduled bookstore appearances.

PETER JANIS: Hi there. My name is Peter Janis from Radial Engineering and Primacoustic live from the AES Show. Today, we want to show you a brand new box. It’s called the Machine Room. And what’s the Machine Room? Well, that’s where you put your computer.

The problem with computers today is that although they’re fabulous, they tend to be very noisy. The fan noise can be painful. What this box does is it allows you to put your computer inside, and if you can hear that noise it’s a little noisy on this floor. That sound, watch this. Listen now, listen here. Completely quiet.

How does it work? Real simple. High density particle board means it’s very heavy, lots of mass. Inside we have foam. Down below here, we have got air vents so the sound comes -- Sorry -- The air comes in the bottom, in through the air vents, and then, come over here and take a look, I’m going to open it up and show you how the top is designed.

What you’ve got now is the air, the hot air is vented through the fan all the way through this maze and then output at the back. The idea of course is that it stops the noise as it goes through this venting system because the sound gets absorbed by the foam as it does that. So, a real simple box, it uses convention, it uses the air to suck it through, works great.

A simple box, not expensive, I think it’s going to retail for about 7 -- $650. Great for all your computers, great for your home recording, great for professional recording, affordable. Brought to you from Primacoustic, one of the Radial Brands
