Propellerhead Record: Open Beta Closes, Record's Retail Life Begins
If you didn't get in on the Beta testing for the new Propellerhead Record (aka, the Reason DAW), no worries. The Beta period may be over, by that just means that now everyone can get there hands on Record, i.e. it's available for purchase worldwide!
We were lucky enough to be Beta testers for Record, and were pretty impressed with the fast learning curve, impressive mixer, and excellent sound-quality. It'll be interesting now to see if Record's intended audience -- non-engineer musicians -- will be chomping at the bit for their own copy, or be intimidated by the expansive mixer and slightly cluttered (IMHO) interface.
For more detailed information on Record, check out our previous article covering the DAW's initial announcement -- it doesn't look like much has changed from the Beta's original design, which one can assume means the Record Beta community was near-unanimously happy with it.
For those of you who've already drunk the Record Kool-Aid (Rekoolaid?), you'll be happy to note that Reason is available for purchase in three flavors:
- Record: "The Record package to get if you don't own Reason and you feel you have no need for it." $249.99 USD
- Record + Reason Duo: "If you are looking for a great offer on both Record and Reason, this is it." $499.99 USD
- Record for Reason Owners: A generous discount for registered users of Reason. $149.99 USD
Current Beta-Testers will still be able to use their authorized version of Record until September 16th (as opposed to today, which was the original plan).
Also, if you happen to be in San Fransisco this Saturday, the 12th, stop by the Producer's conference, where Propellerhead will be hosting a plethora of classes on how to get the most our of their new software. Info on the conference can be found here.

I dont know what Propheads were thinking of putting out a DAW that only recognizes their own proprietary Reason and refils..... and alienate 3rd party plugins..... this will give Presonus STUDIO ONE the edge in this particular race.
I'll bet money Propheads will change that in a year or two... after they see their error..... nobody likes a monopoly esp in music
