ProTone Pedals The Dead Horse: OD on OD

December 05, 2007
ProTone Pedals The Dead Horse

Everyone and their grandmother has released an overdrive pedal at least loosely based on the Tube Screamer -- in fact, my grandmother is releasing her version of the pedal just in time for me to know what I'm getting for Christmas this year. ProTone Pedals is no different, but at least they acknowledge it, make it look really slammin', and talk some trash about how much better their pedal, named The Dead Horse, sounds.

ProTone took the classic TS design and had some fun with it. They performed all of the mods more common to boutique pedals while keeping the price low, so you don't have to catch a lucky quinella at the track to be able to afford one.

Thus, ProTone Pedals The Dead Horse gives you extended low end and more gain. It also adds a switch to change the clipping diodes from symmetrical to asymmetrical -- not your grandma's Tube Screamer!

Features on this creature:

  • Gain, Tone and Volume controls
  • Operates on a standard 9 volt (negative tip) BOSS style adapter
  • True Hardwire Bypass with grounded input for noise free operation
  • Stomp switch built to withstand years of hard stomping shows
  • Durable aluminum housing
  • Super-Bright LED for easy onstage identification
  • Proudly built by hand in Crossroads, Texas
