Those beautiful, resonant sounds of the marimba are now at your disposable, courtesy of Puremagetik, the sample library provider who has just released MalletPak One. MalletPak One is a high-quality multisampled wooden marimba sample library offering the sounds of not 1 or 2, but 12 marimba instruments.

According to Puremagnetik, MalletPak One is a collection of 13 multisampled marimba instruments, all of which were recorded in a reflective room with a pair of Shure KSM32s in an ORTF configuration to capture the wide stereo field of the instrument.

Four different mallet types were used with multiple hits for round-robin triggering and several velocity layers each. In addition, a violin bow recorded for each marimba bar created an eerily textured patch with infinite sustain. The sample collection includes a hybrid patch that combines mallet strikes with the bowed texture, allowing you to mix between articulations. MalletPak was produced in collaboration with artist Richard Lainhart.

MalletPak One is available for Ableton Live 8.2.2, Native Instruments Kontakt 4.2, Apple Logic 9, or Renoise 2.7. The Logic, Kontakt, and Ableton versions include a massive program that includes all four mallet types for easy switching during a performance or recording. What's more, there are several synthetic patches using the marimba as a sound source in order to create unique new musical tones.
