Radial Engineering

In the rush that always happens between the band before you and your first song, you've typically got a whole lot more to worry about than getting that perfect mic angle in front of the cab. Just because they took the "tone" outta the name, doesn't mean they took it outta the pedals. The new Radial Engineering Bones-series of guitar effects were launched at Winter NAMM 2009 in Anaheim; we take a look at the new Bones Twin City ABY Amp Switcher.  

Radial Engineering expands their Bones pedals with a new offering, the Vienna Chorus. It's the first modulation pedal in this line, which until now, has focused on an array of distorted tones.  

With the rising popularity of guitars with outputs for both piezo and magnetic pickups, Radial Engineering develops the PZ-DI. It addresses the separate needs of each signal and sends them out to where they need to go.  

If you thought Radial was a one-trick guitar effects pony, guess again. The pedal company from up north can build more than just incredible distortion, and they aim to prove that with the Bones Vienna Chorus at Winter NAMM 2009.  

Peter Janis from Radial Engineering promised back at the 125th AES convention that his company would be expanding the Radial LB series, and here to keep his promise is the Radial JDX-LB, the 500-series compatible version of their unique guitar amplifier direct box. For a guy named Janis, he sure seems trustworthy.  

I didn't think anyone remembered my days as a professional wrestler, but cable-makers RapcoHorizon have just announced a new instrument cable that honors my signature move, the Rapco Dominator Sliver-Flex. While RapcoHorizon has brazenly decided to move forward with production without my consent, I just hope they'll be OK with me showing up at their NAMM booth in costume as "Strong Island O'Malley."  

We try out the Tonebone Classic Trimode distortion from the consistently impressive Radial Engineering. While counting true bypass as a single mode is kind of cheating, the Trimode makes up for it with an effects loop on the high gain channel.  

I couldn't believe it: smack-dab in the middle of the AES exhibitor's floor, Radial Engineering set up a headshop. I swear, only in San Francisco would you be able to publicly get away with . . . oh, nevermind. I read that as "Hemp." I guess this is some kind of passive headphone send, or something.
