Radial's SW8 Switcher

Radial discusses its SW8 switcher for live sound uses
Radial's SW8 switcher lets you attach two eight-channel recorders to the unit for use in live applications. The first recorder is your playback unit for backing tracks, while the second is used as a backup in case the first one fails. The SW8 switcher will auto-switch to the backup unit should the first one go down, a very handy thing to have on a long tour. Check out the Gearwire video to learn more about the Radial SW8.
More info is at the Radial official site.

PETER JANIS: This is Peter Janis from Radial Engineering, speaking to you from the NAMM show. We’ve got a lot of new products this year. This is one of the really interesting products. It’s called the SW8.

This is designed for bands that travel with backing tracks. In other words, you may have an orchestral track that you want to recreate live. So you use a tape recorder to play those back during the performance. The problem is that these machines are not necessarily designed to be on the road so you get a fair amount of failure. So what this machine does, it allows you to switch from one backing track machine to another. It’s called the SW8. So you here you’ve got a couple of different inputs and one output. And this machine will automatically switch should one of the tracks or one of the machines stop working. Simple as that.

Really cool box. Designed for broadcast, for all kinds of performance, for shows like Cirque de Soleil. These are people that want this kind of box. It gives them the ability to make sure the show always goes on. No break.
