Radial Engineering J+4 Stereo Balance Line Driver Introduced
New from Radial Engineering is the J+4 ($220 MSRP, $199.99 Street), a high-performance line driver that amplifies -10 dB devices so that they can integrate with professional-level +4 dB devices.
You can use the Radial J+4 as an interface for broadcast, live sound, and post-production work, where analog high-impedance signal must be interfaced within a low-impedance, line-level environment without introducing noise.
The Radial J+4 is equipped with stereo 1/4-inch, RCA and 3.5 mm mini TRS connector inputs. According to the manufacturer, its 100 percent discrete electronics deliver spectacular audio with greater than +17 dB of gain while transformer isolation eliminates buzz and hum caused by ground loops. THe J+4 has a highpass filter that reduces low-frequency rumble.
Its XLR outputs follow the AES pin-out standard, and power is supplied from an external 15 VDC supply. Using the Radial J-Rak, up to eight units may be brought together and rackmounted.
The J+4 is made from 14-gauge steel and gets its strong rigidity from its I-Beam internal skeleton, which eliminates stress on the PC board and reduces the odds of solder joints becoming cold. Switches and level control are protected by the book-end design, while the full-bottom no-slip pad ensures that the unit stays put. Take a look at the inner components, below.
The J+4 will ship this month, in January of 2010. For more information, visit the Radial Engineering Web site.
