Radial JDI: The Only DI for Social Code Bassist Logan Jacobs
It's a busy time for Edmonton Canada's Social Code. The band has been touring extensively in Canada and plan to do a U.S. tour later in 2010.
"Our first single from our new album, Satisfied, is sitting at #14 on the Active Rock charts in Canada and is making it's way up the charts in the U.S." says bassist Logan Jacobs.
The band's new album, with the to-the-point title Rock 'N' Roll, is out in the U.S. on March 23, 2010. Jacobs talked to Gearwire about his Radial JDI direct box.
Tell me, in general, what it is that you like about the Radial JDI? How does it compare to other DI's (even other Radials) you have used?
Phat! That's what's amazing about the DI. It's just an amazing sounding DI and the truth is that I've been fortunate enough to have used it pretty much right from the start, because we had an awesome live guy who knew about it. It's been on the road and in and out of studios with me for as long as I can remember. Every time I've compared it to anything else the competitor has immediately failed.
Tell me the best specific feature of this DI.
It's really quite basic and that's what I like about it. It has a ground lift, phase switch, etc. One of the best things about it is that it's built like a tank.
The company states that this DI's "100% isolation" eliminates ground loops and that phase and harmonic distortion are also things of the past -- True? Anything else you like about it beyond these features?
Totally true. It's a very accurate DI that paints the exact picture you want to hear without adding any weirdness at all.
Have you had any problems with the DI? Any feature(s) you would add, change or strengthen about it?

Radial JDI Makes Like A Hermit Crab When Presented With The J-Clamp Rackmountable Housing
I'm sorry, but I don't have any dirt on the JDI. It's solid and has never let me down. As with any DI, it can sometimes be awkward to mount it permanently in a touring setup, but Radial solved that with their J-Clamps.
Talk to me a little about other DIs problems and how you came to start using this one?
As I mentioned earlier, I've just been really lucky to have been introduced to the JDI really early so it's almost all I've used. If I've ever shot it out against another DI there was just no contest. Other DI's are either dull, lackluster, or just plain bad.
