Rain Recording ION 64: More Processing Power Than The Robots They Thought We'd Have By Now Around Ten Years Ago
The old adage, "one Rain's as good as another," does not hold true for the Rain Recording ION 64, a revolutionary new eight core, 64-bit audio workstation (don't call it a computer!) by Rain. Of course, it never rains; it pours, and the Rain ION 64 lets you pour copious amounts of processing-heavy virtual instruments and effects on a huge number of tracks.
Rain states that it'll bring "bone crushing power to your studio," which is an added bonus if you've been considering using your studio to crush bones. Its ability to address up to 64GB of RAM at once is greatly responsible for this great power.
The innards of the ION 64 include two Quad Core AMD Opteron processors and evenly distributes its available memory to each of its eight cores. It's also very roomy, able to house up to four Terabytes, but you'd never be able to tell because it squeezes it all into a rackmountable 4U space.
It also has all the right connections. Connect up to the ION 64 through FireWire, eSATA, USB and / or PCI Express. Starting at around $3,699 standard, it's a machine that has no problem keeping up with your 64-bit capable recording software.
