Rain Recording's Bill Paschick
September 06, 2006
Rain Recording president Bill Paschick says digital recording is more exciting than ever, thanks to incredible advances in computer technology. Those advances include the ability to record directly to RAM. That's no misprint, the old 4 gig RAM limit has finally been topped. The ability to use up to a terabyte will largely depend on how much RAM (as in Rapidly Accessible Money) you have in your wallet.
Paschick had plenty tips aimed at newcomers to DAW, answering those critical questions including, "How much should I expect to spend on my DAW-friendly computer?" and, "Can't I just build my own machine on the cheap?"
Intermediate DAW users will be interested in the section on users who begin outgrowing their machines, and how long your first purchase can realistically last. What's an old-school home studio geek to do when it comes to transferring all those old songs recorded with 90's technology to your new recording system? Paschick addresses that, plus that previously-mentioned tantalizing tech breakthrough enabling users of Windows X64 to record directly to RAM. The Gearwire crew is positively drooling at the thought.
