Randall Kirk Hammett Half Stack: Much, Much Louder Than Hammett Himself
Randall Amplification has been in development with Metallica's Kirk Hammett for over a year on the Limited Edition Half-Stack that bears the guitarist's name, and it must have paid off: Randall's Artist Relations Manager David Karon calls it a "seminal moment in the history of Randall Amplifiers."
The 4x10 cabinet and matching 100 watt head both feature a custom paint job [that looks uncannily like some diligent line-worker at Randall spent an hour on the thing with a belt-sander] and Kirk's handwriting on the preamps.
The more functional aspects of the amp include three tone modules that replicate Kirk's recorded clean, distored and lead tones, a self-biasing tube-circuit, MIDI-in for channel switching, FX loop, and master volume, presence and density [for when you really want to punish your roadies] controls.
The cabinet features four, 10" Randall-designed drivers and a solid-maple construction.
And how much will it cost? Let's just say: $99.99 per watt. Hey, someone had to pay the belt-sander guy, OK?!?!?!?!?
