Should you feel possessed to learn the wonders of the dark art known as "control vinyl," Serato acolyte DJ Puzzle Jason Donnelly can provide you with a crash-course in MIDI-mapped spiritualism.
JASON DONNELLY: Jason Donnelly once again with Gearwire.Com and the Rane TTM 57SL Mixer. This is the Scratch Live bundle and we’re looking at the software that comes with the mixer, Serato Scratch. This is a basic overview real quick. What we’re looking at here is deck 1, deck 2, and primaries that can be edited here for each deck. You got your information here, your pitch bend here. These are cue points. They can be set. Really cool. You can set loop points. You can emulate the turntable mode with the scratch vinyl, and you can also use internal mode if you don’t have a controller. You can also use CD to control this as well and it comes with time-coded CDs and records.
Let’s back up and look at the mixer real fast. So, here’s the Rane TTM 57SL mixer once again, and the control surface up here, we have our buttons and joysticks and what-not. So, here’s the play button, P1.
