Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309: Rhythm Section Clearance Sale

Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309 Part Three

In prior videos, DJ Puzzle showed how to operate the drum sequencer on the Quasimidi Rave-O-Lution 309. Now, he dives into the bass. Sequencing your bass parts is a tad different than sequencing drums on this box, but one thing's for certain. The Rave-O-Lution gives you a rhythm section you can truly rely on.

JASON DONNELLY: We are once again with the Rave-O-Lution 309 by Quasimidi. In a previous section, I showed you how to make a simple hard house/techno beat, the four-on-the-floor kick drum and hi-hats. Now, what I want to do is show you the bass and lead section, and I’m going to show you how to program a sort of 303 groove using the bass and lead synthesizer.

Select bass/lead synthesizer, press your record button. Once again, we have the option to master our pattern and working on our pattern so press F3 and scroll over to menu item number 4, step record. Press F2 to select. Each step will allow you to assign a pitch to the step. Hit play.

So, first step on the first beat, you’re getting a tone from the synthesizer. I actually don’t want that here. I just did that to give you an example. I’m going to scroll over to step 3 and I’m going to hit F on step 3, and I’m going to go over to step 7, hit F, step 11, hit F, real basic stuff here, 15, hit F, and then 16 I’m going to hit C, high C.

Exiting out, that will cancel out the metronome and here’s what we have.

This is our bass line.

I want to show you what you can do with that bass line.

Scroll through your different bass lead sounds.

This one’s all right. Let’s see what else we got.

[JASON DONNELLY PLAYING BACK RECORDED PROJECT IN THE QUASIMIDI RAVE-O-LUTION 309]

Let’s go with this one. We got your cutoff knob here.

The resonance.

[JASON DONNELLY PLAYING BACK RECORDED PROJECT IN THE QUASIMIDI RAVE-O-LUTION 309]

Now, there’s some glide.

You can choose from, see lots of different waveforms here. Turn that down; it’s getting a little too loud. So, we’ve got all these different waveforms that you can choose from. There’s a Moog wave. I’m going to go with what they call they [SOUNDS LIKE] ROL saw.

Next I want to show you how to add effects to that synth to make it a little more interesting and a little more trippy, so let’s dive into that.
