Realsamples Italian Harpsichord III - Edition Beurmann Sample Library Released
With the Realsamples Italian Harpsichord III - Edition Beurmann sample library, you can play the sampled sounds of a real, really old harpsichord.
Italian Harpsichord III - Edition Beurmann features the sounds of a harpsichord instrument built around 1690 by an anonymous maker; the harpsichord featured in this library is presented in its original Kirnberger III-tuning at 382. Three main sounds are included (a front and a rear 8' register, as well both together), which deliver a traditional rich Italian harpsichord tone and flexibility, since you can choose the perfectly "adequate" 8' or the 2 x 8' combination that Realsamples says provides inspiring and complex harmonics.
Available as a DVD set, the new sample collection offers 1,600 samples, the three register combinations (Front 8', Rear 8', and 2 x 8'), eight samples of each note per register combination, four release sounds of each note per register combination, and presets for HALion, Kontakt 2, EXS24, and GigaStudio 3. All content was recorded at 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution, with no mastering applied, and is available royalty-free.
According to the maker, many other sample libraries represent harpsichords by always triggering off the exact same digital sample, leaving a cold and sterile sounding impression. In order to improve upon previous re-creations and to pay tribute to the liveliness and depth of this antique instrument, Realsamples captured every sampled register with eight variations of each note.
Italian Harpsichord III features include the following:
- 1,600 Single samples
- 3 Different register combinations sampled: Front 8', Rear 8', and 2 x 8'
- 8 Different samples of each note per register combination
- 4 Different release sounds of each note per register combination
- Ready-to-play HALion / Kontakt 2 / EXS24 or GigaStudio 3 presets
- WAV format (except GigaStudio version)
- No mastering applied
- Recorded in 24-bit, 192 kHz resolution and downsampled
- DVD set
- License-free content
The Realsamples Italian Harpsichord III - Edition Beurmann sample library is now available for $149.95. For more details, visit the Realsamples Web site, realsamples.de.

In again? Harpsichords are the new Ukuleles?
I'm glad harpsichords are in again, but I don't think they'll take over the next NAMM show the way ukuleles did this year.
Seriously, it's tuned to A=382Hz? I'm sure that's the authentic original tuning, but
nowadays early music ensembles use A=415, while standard pitch for modern instruments is of course A=440.
So this must be intended as a solo instrument. If you want to play this sampled harpsichord with other real instruments, its' going to create problems if you want them to tune down that far.
